Extraordinary images from the Speak-sponsored cycling event, Tour de Lunsar, in Sierra Leone capture the blood, sweat and tears of the sport in west Africa

Last month, thousands attended the Tour de Lunsar, the first ever Speak-sponsored cycling event in Sierra Leone.

Photos taken by former Speakster, cycling expert, and event organiser Tom Owen provide a fascinating look into the world of competitive cycling in west Africa. 

From snaps of the competitors in their brand new Speak-sponsored cycling jerseys, to up close shots of the athletes going toe-to-toe for a prize pot equivalent to a monthly salary – these images reveal what it means to be a cycling champion to the people of Lunsar.
