Monday Funday: John Barnes on repeat
“BRUs on the plane”
Every single World Cup Monday Funday solemnly swears he won’t get carried away. “It’s not worth it”, he tells himself, “it’ll all end in tears”.
Fast forward to the week of the tournament. The vuvuzelas are out and the sweepstake is in full swing as the John Barnes rap echoes across the Speak Media studio. It’s bloody coming home!
Unfortunately, not everyone is invited to the greatest show on earth. Spare a thought for the Tartan Army, whose last appearance on the world stage was France 1998. Scottish football-loving fizzy Irn-Bru – however – are not going to let that ruin the fun. As part of the brand’s “BRUs on the Plane” campaign the popular soft drink has imagined what footballers who weren’t selected for the World Cup are up to in June – Joe Hart look away now.
Ryan meets Gordon
It has been a very big year for Ryan Reynolds. The Canadian actor’s long awaited Deadpool 2 has been released, he’s signed a three year deal with US TV broadcaster Fox and he’s now appeared on Monday Funday for the second time. Ryan, we salute you.
In this two-minute clip from American gin brand Aviation, Ryan is interviewed by his fictional – and slightly green-eyed – twin Gordon about his association with the alcohol manufacturer. Queue awkward silences, passive aggression and some outright cheek.

The year is 2014. Barack Obama has restored diplomatic relations with Cuba, Novak Djokovic has won Wimbledon and – post financial crash – the whole world is absolutely terrified of getting a mortgage.
The Royal Bank of Canada tapped into that dread nicely with this “horror” trailer. Enjoy.
