the challenge

The Revolution Cycling Series is regarded as the ‘Premier League’ of track cycling, attracting the sport’s elite stars – including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, and Laura Trott – to the UK’s best velodromes. After 10 years of Revolution events Face Partnership, the organisers of Revolution, approached Speak Media to refresh the official event programmes, and to take over editing, art direction and production throughout the publishing cycle. Key aims were to increase appeal to advertisers, boost programme sales, improve audience satisfaction and drive engagement with other Face Partnership events and channels.

what we did

For the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons we created a contemporary, dynamic look for the programmes. We designed a more impactful magazine-style cover, featuring editorial, story-led headlines and striking photo-portraits of star riders. We also devised a variety of editorial features and introduced social media activations with competitions based around user-generated images at the live events.

New regulars and features, conceived and developed by Speak Media's editorial team, brought fresh content to every event programme. We broadened the mix of contributors, calling on our own network of cycling specialists, and secured exclusive interviews with the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Laura Trott and Dame Sarah Storey.

the outcome

The updates resulted in praise from readers, increased programme sales and advertising revenues, and a major uplift in social media activity.
