The video received a great response, with lots of positive feedback on the comedy of the scene… It helped convey the ‘we are changing’ message well. Thanks to you and the team who worked on it for us.

the challenge

Spotlight has been the home of casting in the UK since 1927. Its long history demonstrates its commitment to constant innovation, keeping it at the cutting edge of the industry. Now in its 90th year, Spotlight is retiring iconic printed directories and moving to digital-only publishing.

We were asked to create a short film that would emphasise Spotlight’s commitment to innovation and communicate the move to digital-only publishing to its members, as well as generate excitement about the new phase in the company’s life.

what we did

We explored multiple approaches across animation and live-action, ultimately recommending that Spotlight’s move to digital was the perfect time to showcase the passionate people and lively offices at the heart of the company.

Our proposal for a short documentary featuring knowledgeable and enthusiastic Spotlight staff, sandwiched within a comedic fiction scene, allowed us to meet the challenge of balancing creative impact with the need to communicate a range of concise messages about the forward-thinking changes and improvements taking place.

From concept and scripting, through production and post-production, we collaborated closely with Spotlight to ensure the project was delivered to brief, time and budget.

the outcome

Our conceptual, funny and unexpected film engaged viewers from the outset with its humorous element, while clearly communicating Spotlight’s serious message of innovation. It was a significant deviation from Spotlight’s previous video content and their clients responded very positively to the change.

Lauren McKinnon, Marketing Manager at Spotlight, said: "The video got a great response, with the comedy of the scene being commented on…It helped convey the ‘we are changing’ message well. Thanks to you and the team who worked on it for us.”
